"Latest! The 2024 World Footwear Yearbook is out! This type of shoe accounts for half of the global export volume!"

According to the data from the "2024 World Footwear Yearbook" published by the Portuguese Footwear Association (APICCAPS): In 2023, the global export volume of footwear reached 14 billion pairs, valued at $168 billion, with a year-on-year decrease of 9.1% and 6.1% in transaction volume and transaction value, respectively.

Over the past decade, except for 2020 (due to the COVID-19 pandemic), the annual export volume of global footwear has fluctuated between 14 billion and 16 billion pairs. In comparison, the export value in 2023 climbed to $168 billion, marking the second-highest level on record, with a 24% increase compared to 2014.

In this challenging situation, Asian countries have consolidated their dominant position in global footwear trade, with their total production share rising from 83.9% in 2022 to 84.6%. In contrast, Europe's share has slightly contracted to 12.8%. China accounts for 63.8% of total exports, up from 61.3% in 2022. Vietnam ranks second with a 9.5% share, followed closely by Indonesia with 3.2%.

In 2023, the average export price per pair of shoes reached $12, an increase of 3.2% from 2022 and a significant increase of 38.8% over the past decade. During those ten years, textile shoes experienced the largest price increase, surging by 65%. Over the same period, the price of leather shoes rose by 24%.

In terms of export value, leather shoes account for 38% of the total value due to their higher average price. Regarding the export volume of footwear, rubber and plastic shoes dominate, making up half of the global exports.

The "2024 World Footwear Yearbook" indicates that in 2023, the total consumption of footwear in Asia accounted for 54.7% of the global total, an increase from the previous year's share of overall consumption in Asia. Europe and North America follow, with 13.9% and 13.4% respectively.

In terms of per capita footwear consumption, although China's share of the global total consumption has further decreased to 17.1%, it remains the main force in footwear consumption. The United States' consumption has significantly dropped, losing its previous second place to India.
